Psalm 94:19   Thought/Prayer:  God’s Comforts.  Topics:  2 at end.

“According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, thy comforts have given joy to my soul.”  (DRB)  (Read this scripture and more at

This target verse is from the Douay-Rheims Bible, published in 1582 and again completed in 1609-10.  The previous verses – 14–18 – help explain verse 19.
“For the Lord will not cast off his people: neither will he forsake his own inheritance.
Until justice be turned into judgment: and they that are near it are all the upright in heart.
Who shall rise up for me against the evildoers? or who shall stand with me against the workers of iniquity?
Unless the Lord had been my helper, my soul had almost dwelt in hell.
If I said: My foot is moved: thy mercy, O Lord, assisted me.
According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, thy comforts have given joy to my soul.”

But it is the beauty of verse 19 that calls to us today, especially if we are considering all the heartache and many sorrows that can accompany persons in families with wrenching life/death decisions to make.

Verse 18 leads up to the beauty of verse 19:  “If I said: My foot is moved: thy mercy, O Lord, assisted me.”  And then the psalmist speaks of the comforts of God and the joy God gives in his soul.

Circumstances may make this lovely verse 19 seem a dream.  Families in angst may not be able to see any comfort surrounding them, or any coming.  This is where the prayers of Christians can, as God answers, lift up such persons to the Lord, asking that He bless them with His comforts.  The comforts of God:  Like no other.  Who has not run to God in a time of great tragedy or complications seemingly unresolvable?  Who has not been so needy of His Word that it seems impossible to get to a Bible soon enough?

Yes, we who believe find great the comforts of God.  Lord, help us to pray them for others, particularly those who will not, or cannot believe . . . cannot allow themselves to believe.

Topics:  Praise God for His comforts, and help us to never underestimate the peace they can bring in trial.
