Psalm 96:11-13 (Pt. 3)  Thought/Prayer:  A Happy Psalm.  Topics:  2 at end.

“The heavens joy, and the earth is joyful, The sea and its fulness roar.
The field exulteth, and all that [is] in it, Then sing do all trees of the forest,
Before Jehovah, for He hath come, For He hath come to judge the earth. He judgeth the world in righteousness, And the peoples in His faithfulness!”  (YLT)  (Read this scripture and more at

What a happy Psalm!  Heavens joying; the earth is joyful; everything in the waters of the sea roaring; fields exulteth-ing . . . well, so to speak . . . trees singing, all of them.

And why all of this?  God (Jehovah) has come!  “But He has come to judge,” we say.  “Who would want to be judged?  And why would we be so joyfully happy about it”?

Well, in the Psalm we are told that He judges the world in righteousness and the people(s) in faithfulness.  God is holy and is consistent in His character in righteousness and faithfulness.  So, no matter that He is judging, it is a good judging.  And when we are living in His will, what do we have to fear when He judges?  (This is not to say that we live perfectly in His will – Sometimes it is a great struggle.  But knowing of His righteous judgment may, perhaps, help us realize where we need Him to help us do better.)

Perhaps one of God’s attributes Christians see in their lives over time is His faithfulness.  The longer we walk with the Lord, as we look back, His faithfulness shines through this and that and many things and circumstances.  This Psalm is joying over this, His faithfulness.  We can too!

Lord, thank You for happiness in the Bible, over You.  This little Psalm just jumps for joy, and we thank You that You are the God of pure joy and that You love every individual on Earth whom you have created.  Thank you for the joy of a new baby.  We pray that in some way, parents of an unexpected baby will find Your joy in this new created life.  And we pray that these unexpected babies will be born and will grow to joy, over Earth and Heaven.

Topics:  Praise God for joy and for the joy of newborn babies that were once destined for termination in the womb, but for someone bringing joy into the parents’ lives, resulting in a new citizen of Earth being brought into the world.
