Psalm 96:11-13   Thought/Prayer:  The Sky in the River.  Topics:  2 at end.

“The heavens joy, and the earth is joyful, The sea and its fulness roar.
The field exulteth, and all that [is] in it, Then sing do all trees of the forest,
Before Jehovah, for He hath come, For He hath come to judge the earth. He judgeth the world in righteousness, And the peoples in His faithfulness!”  (YLT)  (Read this scripture and more at

It’s was one of those videos accompanied by music, such as the are played for residents in retirement places of health care.  The music is often soft, and scenery rolls by, through video of all types of places and landscapes.  Sometimes the camera’s movement gets in rhythm with the melody’s beat.

On this day, it caught my eye because . . . well, it looked like the sky was floating down a river.  The beautifully pastel clouds were shining like a river of sky, between green fields.  The scene was crisp with color.  It was rather breathtaking, especially since the sky was seen as though it were a river running through the scene.

In fact, the river of clouds was a reflection.  The sun and sky and water were synced perfectly when this video was made.  And the river perfectly reflected the sky.  This is why the sky seemed to be in the river!

It makes a person think of an old hymn, “This is My Father’s World” by Franklin Lawrence Sheppard and Maltbie Davenport Babcock, (1901 and 1915) (public domain).  Here are the lyrics of the first two verses.

This is my Father’s world,
And to my list’ning ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas—
His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world:
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world:
He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.

The video of the clouds above and “in the river” fit so well with these lyrics.  Nature speaks to us, even in an eye-catching video.  (And of course, God is “nature,” as we call it.)  As in the song, there were trees and skies for sure in the video.  And such a pretty scene, and innumerable others in the world, does seem to sing out of God’s handiwork . . . and even a little subtly of His to make the river showcase the clouds above.  How often do we see what’s above, when looking down?  (Well, often in prayer?)

Lord, we thank You for the beauty of the Earth, this planet You created.  And perhaps, in some manner, Lord, someone who is struggling with huge, deep decisions in life, and especially for LIFE issues, may see something like this video or just notice Your creation in some manner on some day – and be blessed and realize that there is a God (You) who loves beauty and also wants to bring beauty into our lives.  It’s through Him.  It’s through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Topics:  Pray that unbelievers who are struggling in life will become aware of the natural beauty God has created for our enjoyment on Earth and will see that it is from a beautiful God who loves them just as much as the beauty of the Earth, Our Father’s world.
