Thessalonians 1:8-10   Thought/Prayer:  He Delivers!  Topics:  2 at end.

“For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. For they themselves show of us what manner of entrance we had to you, and how ye turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivered us from the wrath to come.” (WBT)  (Read this scripture and more at

One of the names for Jesus Christ in the Bible is:  Deliverer.  In this scripture He is referred to as the One “who delivered us from the wrath to come.”  Yes, He delivers us from God’s eternal wrath – not by anything we do – except believe!  It’s totally through God’s grace that we are saved.  Ephesians 2:8 and 9 tells us this.  For “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (AKJV).  Yes, it is only by God’s grace that we are delivered through Jesus Christ from God’s eternal wrath.

But there are so many other ways in which the Lord Jesus delivers us.  He helps us from sin, as we confess it to Him.  And He can deliver us from unwholesome situations.  He delivers us from our “selves,” it would seem – helping us overcome that in our lives which is not pleasing in God’s sight.

And He can deliver mothers and fathers from the depths of grief when He convicts against taking the life of a person in the womb.  He comes alongside and loves them and their unborn baby(s) and guides them into a LIFE decision.

And He delivers babies from the womb into the world – How precious it is when one of those little persons is brought from the womb into life because someone prayed, and the Lord convicted, and the outcome was LIFE.

Jesus also delivers us from wrong or hurtful attitudes, whether against others – or just attitudes concerning our own selves that lead us downward.  He has been on Earth and has experienced all that we do; so He understands.  We ask Him for help to view our selves and our lives in His view; and he is able to deliver us from wrong thinking.

Lord, we thank You for being our great Deliverer in so many ways.  We thank you especially for those in great anguish over loved ones’ situations when dealing with life/death decisions.  Help us to pray for them and for their deliverance – deliverance from abortion; and birthing deliverance out of the womb and into the world to live their lives.

Topics:  Pray for those we know who are in need of deliverance, especially those babies at risk in their mothers’ wombs.
