Zechariah 8:1-5 Thought/Prayer: Defining Good Times and Peace.  Topics: 2 at end.

“Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.  Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.  Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.  And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.”  KJV  (Read this scripture and more at

God is describing good times.  God is returning to the holy city, Jerusalem, and He will dwell in its midst.  He grandly states that Jerusalem will be known as a city of truth.  He speaks of the city as “the mountain of the LORD of hosts, the holy mountain.”  This is, of course, God-like in scope.

But then, notice:  the next statement from His mouth is about old men and women.  And after that he talks of boys and girls playing in the streets.  What is this?  No tribute to warriors, statesmen, or kings?  No mention of intellectuals, poets, physicians or wealth?  What about the athletes or beauty queens?

No, here God equates peace and goodness with the old and the young being at ease in the city.  Isn’t that beautiful?!  He speaks of the grandeur of Jerusalem, but immediately, to finish out his description of good times, it’s the most vulnerable citizens He singles out!  He elevates those often considered to be of “the least” as the true indicators of peace and that all is well.

Lord, we who strive for LIFE in our world thank you for these encouraging words!  Lord, you know our hearts toward these peoples who often struggle just to live.  Some won’t make it without the assistance we give.  Especially this applies to the preborn.  Lord, we ask that all preborn children will live to play in the streets and to love their family of older generations dwelling alongside.

Topics:  Pray to ALWAYS remember the value God puts on our most at-risk citizens of Earth, that we may act to value them as well.
The soul of our nation
