Acts 17:26, 27   Thought/Prayer:  Surprises and Infinity.  Topics:  2 at end.

“He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings, that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.”  WEB   (Read these scriptures and more at

Suddenly our trees got all frilly.  One day toward spring, I’m making mental notes that all the trees still look like sticks.  Today those sticks are white-blossomed wands . . . yes frilly, indeed.  A nice surprise, mildly anticipated.

It seems to happen suddenly.  One day, no flowers on a branch; the next:  flower-cover up and down and all around.  Soon other trees will present varieties of pinks and rosy; blue and lavender.  Green leaves will foliate and eventually take over, as planned . . . planned by an ever-ingenious God.

The popping out of flowers on trees brings the excitement of beauty appreciated, or its peace.  Where there was nothing new to note, now hundreds and thousands of noteworthy shapes and colors come.  This seems to bring a peace associated with the clockwork of the universe and of our planet.  Here in Acts we’re told that the seasons are appointed by God.

The plans God made for our planet are totally beyond us, but don’t we enjoy His creativity?  The variety of plants, animals, and persons is googol (number 1 followed by 100 zeros) and beyond . . . into the no-limits or ends of infinity.  Even if there were the number googol assigned to some specific created thing, in the next moment something would happen to bring another creation in, beyond googol.  Yes, God is beyond googol or anything that limits.

He loves a good surprise.  From stick-limbs to flowering overnight.  Do you think He enjoys our amazement when we suddenly notice this?

Here on this site, part of the point of all of this is that God has a plan; and that plan may include an unexpected baby.  Truly, what a surprise!  But, Lord, help us to convey to others how much You enjoy surprises, especially if it is a new person You’re creating.  Help us to let the prospective parents know that there is a plan for this child just as there is for the buds to surprise us in spring, with popping out flowers!

Topics:  Pray for diplomacy when presenting to a mom with a surprise pregnancy – presenting the fact that God wanted this child to be here on Earth through this surprise.
