Ephesians 3:14-19 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Foundations.  Topics:  2 at end.

Paul’s Prayer for the Ephesians
For this reason, on bended knee I beseech the Father, from whom the whole family in Heaven and on earth derives its name,  to grant you—in accordance with the wealth of His glorious perfections—to be strengthened by His Spirit with power penetrating to your inmost being. I pray that Christ may make His home in your hearts through your faith; so that having your roots deep and your foundations strong, in love, you may become mighty to grasp the idea, as it is grasped by all God’s people, of the breadth and length, the height and depth— yes, to attain to a knowledge of the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, so that you may be made complete in accordance with God’s own standard of completeness.”  (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

When praying this scripture and substituting someone’s name for “you,” we might pray thusly:  “I pray that Christ may make His home in ‘Jo’s’ heart; so that having her roots deep and her foundations strong, in love, ‘Jo’ may become mighty to grasp the idea, as it is grasped by all God’s people, of the breadth and length, the height and depth . . .”  What a prayer this will be for a Jo or a Bob or anyone else.

We might see that the person prayed for will be having her “roots deep” and her “foundations strong” – but “in love.”  When we have our roots deep into Jesus Christ, then that helps strengthen our foundations for our lives.  What might these foundations be for our prayed-for persons?  Well, to name a couple . . . the foundation of faithfulness, God’s faithfulness.  He is faithful when no one else is.

The foundation of grace.  Without God’s grace, none of us has a chance to gain the beauty of the Lord within us.  We are so opposite of His holiness, that it is His extreme grace that takes us to Himself when we believe.  It is His grace that draws us to Him.

There is the foundation of assurance.  When we believe, we are assured of eternal life with the Lord, a glorious inheritance that comes with our faith.  And there is the foundation of joy.  “The Joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).  No matter our circumstances, no matter our trials, when we know Him, we have joy.  It can carry us through very dark times.

All of this is in love.  It is the greatest foundation of God.  “I Corinthians 13:13.  “But now faith, hope, and love remain—these three. The greatest of these is love.”  (WEB)

As we may pray this scripture for someone dealing with great LIFE crises, we trust You, Lord, to answer to them with Your foundations of faithfulness, grace, assurance and joy.

In Your love.
