I John 2:1-2 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Our Propitiation.  Topics:  2 at end.

Jesus is Our Advocate
My little children, these things write I to you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”  (AKJV)  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

It is Jesus Christ the righteous who makes advocacy before God the Father possible.  This can be seen through that big word, “propitiate.”  Well, what is that!?  It’s right here in the I John scripture above.  Propitiation.

Well, if a person propitiates for someone, they do something to gain favor for the person – hoping to have them viewed favorably in the eyes of someone else.  One outcome might be that the person appealed to through propitiation might become less angry.  Jesus Christ’s righteousness is the standing in which we can be viewed by God with less anger.  In fact, when Jesus righteousness covers us before the throne of God, we are viewed by God as righteous also.  This comes with our salvation, when we are saved by Jesus Christ.

As we serve the Lord under His guidance through the Holy Spirit, we have access to God through prayer.  This is one way in which we can make good on Jesus’ propitiation for us, we might say . . . by being able to be viewed by God as worthy to come before His throne with our petitions, both for ourselves and for others.  In Hebrews 4:16 we are encouraged:  “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”  We can come boldly because Jesus Christ is our propitiation and our advocate.

It is a grand thing, this plan that God has in place for us . . . has always had since before time began.  And it comes right down to our lives and our love for others’ lives.  Thank You, Lord, that we can stand before You in Christ and that we can intercede for others because of our position in Him.  Let us be faithful to intercede for those who battle the decisions of life vs. death.

Topics:  Praise God for His plan of salvation and how we can be seen in Christ as worthy before God’s throne, especially as we minister in the world, life, death and more.
