I John 2:13   Thought/Prayer:  A Because-Gold-Mine.  Topics:  2 at end.

“I write to you, fathers, because you have known him that is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father.”  (AKJV)  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

The word Because in the Bible.  What about it?  What does it mean?  Why are there many scriptures containing this word?

The meaning of because might be said as “as a result of” or “for this reason.”  We use it often in daily life.  I am tired because I worked hard today.  I am happy because my daughter’s birthday party was a big success, and on and on.  So, in the Bible, what are some “becauses” that might apply to the stance for created LIFE?

This scripture has been chosen BECAUSE, of course, it has “because” in it (in fact, three times!).  (See, how useful this common word is?)  This verse is a “because-gold-mine.”  (Please forgive the perhaps silly humor here.)

Anyway, the book of I John is considered to be written by the apostle John, one of Jesus’ 12 disciples.  And here he is talking to fathers, young men, and little children with different aspects of the word, because.  In I John, the author is authenticating the person of Jesus Christ and then speaking of loving Christ in our daily lives.  In this verse John is wanting to encourage and exhort these three groups of people, in the Lord.
“Little children” could be John’s description of those who believe in God as their father.  But also, could it not apply to children who come to know Jesus as their Savior when they are not yet grown into adulthood?  Many adults of long service in the Lord have come to know Him when they were “kids.”

So, a point here could be, John is encouraging these people because of their experiences in the Lord.  The fathers have known Him from the beginning.  The young men have overcome Satan.  The children know God the Father.

There are lots of meanings that could be delved into here, but the point of this writing is that God speaks to all persons who love Him, sometimes even singling out a few groups.  If indeed, the writer is referring to children according to age, how wonderfully this fits into a pro-created-Life stance.  The children!  They are important to God.

As we go about supporting God-created life on Earth, we might consider these words and the “because” connections.  John is encouraging these groups of people because they have been living out the Christian walk in different ways, knowing God and overcoming evil.  Praise Him.

Lord, we do thank You for children and how You bring them up physically with the capabilities to know You spiritually.  And if this verse sees children as all of us who are Your children spiritually, then we thank You for being our Father.  Help us to have encouragement, and to encourage others, with the “because” elements of our lives in spiritual growth.  And help preborn children to be saved from abortion and to grow up physically and spiritually.

Topics:  Praise God for words of encouragement such as these and thank Him for the witness in the Bible of so many encouraging writers.
