I Samuel 10:24-26 (Pt. 4)  Thought/Prayer:  A Band of Men, Hearts Touched.  Topics:  2 at end.

“And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.  Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house. And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.”  KJV http://www.bible.com (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)

Would we wonder how Saul felt when going home from being announced as Israel’s first king?  He certainly could have been bewildered; he certainly must have felt blessed as he tried to absorb what had just happened.  For anyone, this would have been a startling turn of events.  He was a farmer, and suddenly he is to be king.  Great things here.

But notice the final sentence of this passage.  “. . . and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.” (KJV)  Perhaps they will grow to be brothers in this band because of hearts in common.  This band of men may have been unusual in that day, or in any day perhaps, because of the common link:  God had touched their hearts.  What better type of a group of men banded together!  Really, they were not just banded together, they were bonded.  It is a beautiful reality when God unites us with others of like minds and hearts. King Saul should have considered himself the most blessed of all men; and he probably did.

What king could ask for more in regard to service and loyalty?  Men following him, men following because of God’s touch.  For kings, especially godly kings, surely it doesn’t get much better than that!  We know for certain that all kings and presidents are not godly persons.  Oh that they were.  But even then, even for those who give faith little if no thought, it must be heartening to have supportive groups of loyal persons always in the wings.

Lord, help each of us to be a part of a band of loyal folks, in all our endeavors, especially those in which You play a major role.  Whether it’s pro-life or evangelism or prophetic leading, Lord we pray that you will give us a heart, that you will touch our hearts, to support whatever You have planned.  We especially want the touch on our hearts, from Your hand.

Topics:  Pray for the awareness of God’s touch on our lives, whether in pro-life causes or others.
