A droplet of water seems silent as it rolls down your car windshield.  Indeed, we cannot hear it.  Even then, it seeks other drops with which to combine for a bigger trail down the glass to the windshield-wiper trough.  Combine such rivulets, and we get larger swaths of water, eventually smooth sheets of it if we’re really getting stormy.

This scripture mentions the sea with roaring waves.  Anyone who has been to the beach at an ocean recognizes this distinctive sound.  My very first association with any ocean, as a kid, came as sound, not water.  The minute we landlubbers drove up in darkness to our cottage, there was this never-before-heard sound.  It’s all those tiny silent droplets rushing pell mell together to try to stand up tall and be a big wave – but the shoreline thwarts this effort, and the waves crash into the shallows with their ROAR.  It never ceases because oceans never stop making breakers, as they’re called.  As we watch and listen, perhaps the scripture will come to us, that God stirs up the ocean to create this roar-phenomenon of all waves: the crashes onto shallow depths.  So, even through the roar, His name can be touted and proclaimed.

We as pro-life folk can be compared to this.  We each walk our own path, our own rivulet if you will – and then we combine all our paths together to make not a splash, but a roar.  At least this is as it should be.

So is it?  Do we really combine our pathways to make a wide road of service, in unity?  Do we really walk the same highway figuratively crashing our waves?  We know we come upon obstacles.  Perhaps these make our roar even louder.  Lord, we pray that we can work together in so much unity that our individual rivers of service just blend together like salt-water waves, causing a roar of change in our world.  Stir US UP!

Topics: Pray for pro-life unity (and to make a big, crashing sound in the world.
