Judges 5:19-21   Thought/Prayer:  Marching Shoes.  Topics:  2 at end.

“The kings came and fought; then fought the kings of Canaan; in Taanach by the waters of Meggido: they took no gain of money.
They fought from heaven, the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
The river Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, march on with strength.”

We’re looking at marching in the army of the Lord, that spiritual army that transcends all earthly formations of soldiers, pilots, sailors, and more.  Let’s make a connection here with a prophet/judge/warrior named Deborah who prophesied an Israelite victory over forces from Canaan under King Jabin. The scripture above is from The Song of Deborah, a victory hymn extolling this victory.

We will look at one sentence from the song:  “O my soul, march on with strength.”  Is not this a marching order for all of us who are in the army of the Lord over time?  Deborah lived perhaps a thousand years before Christ.  And yet she is giving us a mandate today.

When we think of our souls’ marching-on, let us consider how this might play out in our real physical world.  Let us consider all of the type of shoes marching on feet for God all through history, walking through life with the Lord in their hearts:  The heavy, protective shoes of some military men and women; the shoes of everyday persons going about tasks in saddle oxfords (from the 1950’s) or flip flops; the sometimes-hesitant feet of the elderly in orthotic shoes; the shoes on the feet of those who stand for LIFE outside abortion places; the tiny shoes of little boys and girls who know Jesus as their Savior: all marching for Him as they live out life with Him in mind and under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

Little children, we might ask?  Yes.  So many children accept Jesus into their hearts at young ages.  I personally know of one such girl who, at age 4, knew Jesus as Savior and Lord; she has been in full-time Christian service all of her life.

Yes, the Lord’s army is spiritual.  But the Commander (God) depends upon the shod feet of believers to overcome every battle.  (He even accepts shoeless feet along the beach, enjoying the feel of the damp sand.)

And let us not forget the words about feet covered with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15).

Thank You, Lord, for all the shoes on feet that have served you through marching through life as soldiers in Your spiritual army.  Let us all walk our lives with You in mind at all times; and we praise You for the victories You will bring through our commitment to march.

Topics:  Pray for God’s army to become stronger and stronger with more and more marchers, including the preborn who were threatened by planned premature death in the womb . . . but who were saved and great up to march for God.
