Luke 1:31-33   Thought/Prayer:  Where’er the Sun.”  Topics:  2 at end.

“And behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name JESUS.  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give to him the throne of his father David:  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” (AKJV)  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

Jesus will reign.  He shall reign over his kingdom forever.  Marvelous.  And what can this mean to us?

There is an old hymn from 1719 – three hundred years ago – with words written by Isaac Watts (Music by M. J. Hatton).  It is titled,

“Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun.”  Three of the 5 verses say,
1 ”Jesus shall reign where’er the sun
does its successive journeys run,
his kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
till moons shall wax and wane no more.

3 People and realms of every tongue
dwell on his love with sweetest song,
and infant voices shall proclaim
their early blessings on his name.

5 Let every creature rise and bring
the highest honors to our King,
angels descend with songs again,
and earth repeat the loud amen.”

What can these words mean to us?  It can mean Jesus has won the victory; it affirms the stand for LIFE; it adores God;

The victory will come as His reign being everywhere.  Verse one describes the sun’s light, everywhere.  We know that our sun’s light never goes out.  Even though we experience nighttime, it is shining somewhere else.  The light of the Son (God’s Son) is the same.

In verse three, we have the heralding of God through “infant voices.”  Yes, babies do declare the handiwork of God.  Their voices (from sweet babbling to strident wailing) do proclaim Him.  Here is an affirmation of the need for pro-life work.  These little babies actually can “proclaim their early blessings on his name.”  Pure praise.

Verse five has every creature honoring God, both earthly and heavenly.  Jesus brought earth and heaven together.  It is fitting that praise comes from both.  All creatures rise and bring honors to God . . . including angels coming down to sing to us . . . and us (“earth” or maybe Earth’s peoples) echo back those songs of high honor.

In a pro-life way, perhaps verse 3 is our favorite.  Lord, thank You for Isaac Newton who was inspired to include your creation of babies in this song of praise.  Lord, help us individually to sing back to You all the praises in this time-honored hymn.

Topics:  Praise God for babies who proclaim God’s name.  Help us to honor them when in the womb.
