Luke 1:39-45 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Life Going On.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah, and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. It happened, when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, that the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She called out with a loud voice, and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy! Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”  WEB (Read these scriptures and more at

What can we take away from this beautiful account of recognition of our Lord Jesus by His cousin in someone else’s womb?  First, the power of the Holy Spirit is very evidenced in the greeting from the womb of Elizabeth, mother of John later known as John the Baptist.  Our Lord Jesus entered that house in the form of a newly existing life, however developed He was at the time.

Have any other babies ever, at conception or at 6 months in the womb, had this capability to recognize someone?  No.  There are theories that perhaps the preborn can recognize Mother’s voice or recognize certain music after birth, music that has been played especially for them.  But this recognition by the unborn John the Baptist is unique, as unique as it should be.  We’re dealing with the Lord of lords here.  There has been no other recognition of this order or importance.  It is a miracle.

Mary greeted Elizabeth, and the baby John leaped at her voice.  By the time a baby is at the 6-month level of development, Mother knows when there is a big movement within – and this was a leap!  John recognized the voice of His Lord’s mother and knew her baby was as much in the room as she was.  He rejoiced.

Lord, help us to rejoice always when babies are on the way.  Just the presence of a person yet to be born calls attention to the fact that LIFE does go on, and we are reminded of the importance of life going on, generation to generation.  Help us to help mothers’ hearts and fathers’ hearts to leap for joy also when they learn of a new pregnancy, planned or unplanned.

Topics:  Pray for the recognition of pregnancy as a sign from God that life does go on and it’s important to humanity that it does.
