Philippians 3:10-14 - Press On, Not Back

Thought/Prayer - Topics:  2 at end.

“I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!
I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.  No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”  http://www.bible.com/

When the end of a year rolls around, sometimes we may acknowledge to ourselves that the past year has not been all it could be in service to God.  Maybe we know that there were things left undone that could have made a difference to someone.  Maybe we realize that our goals were actually not as high as perhaps they should be; or maybe we set no real goals for ourselves.

In this passage, we are told to forget the past and press on into the future.  Regret does not accomplish anything tomorrow.  This is not to say that we should not confess our shortcomings and failures and ask for forgiveness.  But to wallow in thoughts of failure and to mentally retrace circular pathways over and over brings a halt to accomplishment.  We’re told to step out for tomorrow is a new day.

Lord, help those of us who desire for LIFE to triumph in our world to allow you to forgive us for our disappointments that hurt your heart, and we pray that we may be able to forgive ourselves.

Topics:  Pray for effectiveness in the service of the Lord regarding all LIFE issues, from birth to end of life.
Pray for Peter Shinn, that all of the ministries of Pro-Life Unity will be funded for the next year.
