Psalm 104:1-5 (Pt. 3)  Thought/Prayer:  The Garment of Light.  Topics:  2 at end.

O Lord, My God, You Are Very Great
Bless Yahweh, my soul. Yahweh, my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty.
He covers himself with light as with a garment. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain.
He lays the beams of his rooms in the waters. He makes the clouds his chariot. He walks on the wings of the wind.
He makes his messengers winds; his servants flames of fire.
He laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved forever.”  (WEB)  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

There is a special sentence here, to consider in our imaginations.  Speaking of God,  “He covers himself with light as with a garment.”  Could we, in reverence of course and not to put Him on our level at all, picture God putting on light as though He were putting on a jacket or a coat?  Would He go one sleeve at a time and then button the front?  Or would, in His awesome way, just think the jacket on, all at once, already buttoned?

Well, we know that this is figurative language, and we take from it that God is covered with light.  He is light, we know.  But here we picture it as a covering that He puts on.  Wonder what it would be like if we could “wear” light – a sports coat of light . . . an evening gown of light.  (Of course, some evening gowns bring an image of light in their reflective shininess or glitter.)

But God’s light?  Well, it’s not glitter, not just a decorative touch.  God’s light is through and through.  It’s pure.  It doesn’t need added glitter.

He lights our way.  He can light the way of persons struggling in decisions of life or death.  And when a newborn meets the world, the light of Earth’s day will light their way in the world.  Lord, we thank You that You light the way with Your greatest gift of pure Light, Jesus Christ the Light of the World (John 8:12).  These newborns will some day hopefully understand about that Light.

Topics:  Pray for babies still in the (hopefully) safe darkness of mothers’ wombs to be born to enjoy the light of day and the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.
