Our hands, Lord. They are so of You and Your creativity.
Baby hands soft and pink or pristine brown.
A road construction worker’s hardened, suntanned hands, like that of a farmer.
A homemaker’s hands, kneading.
A mountain guide’s hands, leading, pointing the way.
The teenager’s hand, first touching the face of his girl.
The mother’s hand, soothing and cooling a brow.
The priest’s hands, holding the communion chalice.
The king’s hands on a scepter in a palace.
Hands together in prayer; hands outspread in God’s joy; hands holding others’ for care.
They are beautiful, Lord, our hands.
The most beautiful hands of all, Lord, are Yours. Your hands created all of the hands ever in the world. Our hands are your handiwork.
Help us, God, to appreciate their intricate design, their wonder and purpose. We purpose to help others, Lord. We ask that You direct our hands to those who need us – who need us through these wondrous hands You have fashioned for us . . . each individual and personally designed for the tasks we will accomplish.
Help us to use them for LIFE, and help our hands to bring life to many babies in the womb and to bring quality life to those who are unable to do for themselves, no matter their seeming uselessness or age. They may just need the touch of a soothing hand more than any.
