Psalm 147:12-16 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Wrap Up in a Sheep’s Coat.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Praise Yahweh, Jerusalem! Praise your God, Zion!  For he has strengthened the bars of your gates.  He has blessed your children within you.
He makes peace in your borders. He fills you with the finest of the wheat.
He sends out his commandment to the earth. His word runs very swiftly.
He gives snow like wool, and scatters frost like ashes.” (WEB)  (Read these scriptures and more at

Could we imagine for a moment what it would be like to wrap oneself up in a newly-sheared coat of wool from a great big sheep? This “coat” of wool had until this moment been all over this sheep, keeping it very warm.  Now we have it wrapped around us and are surprised at the weight:  From 5 to even 30 pounds!  We may need to sit down, it’s so heavy!

Well, those sheep just-shorn may be glad to feel free and easy without that heavy coat of fleece.  But on a winter’s day, wouldn’t it feel great to wrap up in this natural coat of wool, untreated by human hands, and think about God’s love-wrap of His own wooly coat, that of love?  We can say this because of that stupendous scripture about our sins being bleached white by the Heavenly Fuller’s methods:  They will go from crimson to . . . white as wool.

Just as a fuller would use soap or other substances to cleanse wool, God’s cleansing is even greater.  Malachi 3:2 “But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: . . .” (AKJV)  So we sit wrapped up snug against wind, frost and snow, enjoying our sheep’s thick warm coat; but we are thinking of the sheltering purity of our cleansed sin as wool.  This is the other aspect to our newly-sheared wool.  It inspires gratefulness . . . against the cold . . . against the influences of an unforgiven life.

We all had unforgiven lives before accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord.  How much more, then, do we exude gratefulness for the warm wrap of Jesus?  We wrap up in Him, as in a sheep’s coat of white and warm wool.  Those struggling with LIFE issues need to know how to wrap in in Him.

Topics:  Praise God for images in scripture that we can grab onto and wrap up in, to our benefit and His glory.  May we teach others about this warm and beneficial wrap.
