Psalm 150   Thought/Prayer:  St. Pat’s:  Music and Babies.  Topics:  2 at end.

Let Everything That Has Breath
Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.3
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and the pipe.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”  (ERV)  (Read this scripture and more at

This last Psalm in the Bible is just full of praise, music, and dance.  Well, when St. Patrick’s Day comes around annually, there may be a lot of Irish music and dance – and perhaps some praise thrown in for the Irish heritage.  When it comes to stories, music and dance, the Irish have offered us a lot!  A St. Patrick’s Day parade is sure to be showing off a lot of these skills from our Irish singers and dancers.  Who doesn’t love the haunting sound of uilleann pipes, played sitting down, accompanying an Irish tenor in renditions of favorite Irish tunes?  The instrument looks awkward, with its different pipes sticking out, and bag, but ah . . . its unique sound is anything but, and just cannot be duplicated.

Well, God incorporated the joy of music into His creation, and at St. Patrick’s time, we enjoy the unique tones, melodies and rhythms of Irish music.  Including the jig!  Now there is one to get us going.

The passage of scripture here just shows us how joyful believers can be with music and praise.  But now consider the babies in mothers’ wombs who will be born on St. Patrick’s Day.  No, we don’t expect them to exit the womb doing a jig; we don’t expect the delivering doctor to break into “When Irish Eyes are Smiling,” although the lullaby “Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral” could be appropriate.  Maybe the little newborn cap they put on babies’ heads will be green.

But let’s pray for the babies who will be conceived in about three months, so as to have a due date around St. Pat’s Day.  Let’s pray that these babies will be wanted and will be birthed when their time comes.  Let’s pray that not a one of them will be aborted.

Lord, we thank you for joyous occasions of music, whether in praise of you or just for the joy of it.  We pray for the yet-to-be-conceived babies whose date for birth will be near St. Patrick’s Day.

Topics:  Pray for joy for parents in the carrying and birthing of all babies – that they may be wanted and accepted.
