Psalm 52:8   Thought/Prayer:

A Green Tree of Trust Springing Up.  Topics:  2 at end.

(Speaking of a “mighty” man): “Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.”

Olives are good for us humans.  Maybe that is why there are so many references to them in the Bible.  Olive oil has many wonderful, healthful properties.

But how do we get to be like a green olive tree in the house of God?  By trusting, by believing God, by appropriating his mercy in our lives.  This scripture says a green tree – which could speak of potential.  If a green tree is a young tree, it could bear both olives and bushels of potential; olive trees can live to be hundreds and hundreds of years old.

We want to be a tree growing in God’s house.  Picture a modern-day church with an olive tree at the center, growing up through an opening in the floor of the sanctuary in some way.  The circle cut out for the tree would need to be a great deal larger in diameter than the little green sapling first planted.  Because olives trees live so long, they become quite large in girth.

I want to be that tree, springing up in the place of worship, and filling out year by year to learn to trust God and do His will.

Pray that you and I will trust God daily so that our little saplings-of-selves will grow and get huge with service for LIFE.

Pray for Peter Shinn’s family to stay strong in belief and actions as they serve and grow within the surrounding blanket God’s mercy.
