Psalm 74:16 ,17 (Pt. 3)  Laws, Two Types.  Topics:  2 at end.

“The day is thine, the night also is thine; *thou* hast prepared the moon and the sun:
*Thou* hast set all the borders of the earth; summer and winter—*thou* didst form them.”  (DBT)  (Read this scripture and more at

We speak of God’s orderliness in creation, such as is addressed in the few lines of this scripture above.  There is no questioning His orderliness in nature.  Mankind even refers to some of God’s orderliness as “laws.”  A scientific law occurs when repeated observations prove something as being invariable over much time, until proven otherwise.  The thing is, once observations of scientific happenings keep proving themselves over and over, they can be relied on for accuracy in scientific circles.

In the spiritual realm, there is one major law of God’s:  Love.  No, it is not proven in a chemistry or a physics lab.  But over time, the law of love is proven in the labs of life.  The Bible tells us it is even greater than faith and hope (I Corinthians 13:13).

It’s not that we don’t need faith or hope; and there is no ongoing competition to prove that love is the greatest.  But we see below, in Romans, that love is the law, the whole law.

Romans 13:8-10:
Love Fulfills the Law
Owe no one anything, unless to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. For, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not lust; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love works no ill to its neighbour; love therefore [is the] whole law” (Darby Bible Translation).

And, of course, God’s laws are never proven to be wrong or overtaken by new evidence, etc.  They are immutable, never being subject to change.  Isn’t it comforting to know that the proven laws of science, as necessary and relied-upon as they are in human existence, cannot be as set and firm and constant as God’s law of love?  Yes, He set the scientific laws in motion.  But Love gains all.  As in the Romans 13 scripture, “Love works no ill to its neighbor; love therefore [is the] whole law.”

When we think of a woman carrying an unplanned baby within her body, if this pregnancy is because she was unthinking and careless, we may tend to think of her beyond the law of love.  But our concern is not primary, if we think of her more than the baby.  It is the baby who especially needs God’s law of love.  And God, through those of us who stand up for the rights of the baby, may reach this woman for Himself.  And when she understands that God’s law of love is unchangeable, she then has access to great healing, as she repents of her unmanageable ways and comes to love those who are loving her through God’s love-law.

It is up to us who stand for LIFE.  A woman such as this needs us because we represent the God who made love the greatest law.  This woman needs to know love.  Those who can give it to her best as those who understand God’s law of love.

Lord, help us to be the representative for God’s Law.  Please help us to love women such as this, whether in person, financially, in prayer, or in other ways.  Apply the law of love over her life.

Topics:  Help pro-life folks to display God’s law of love to those who need it most, those who are sometimes considered beyond compassion and love.
