Preacher Pelosi

Apparently Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, has assumed the authority to tell the bishops what to preach to the faithful.  On Jill Stanek’s blog, www.jillstanek.com, I watched a video of Speaker Pelosi from last month, speaking about how we need to remember “The Word,” meaning Jesus Christ, and my blood began boiling.  First of all, she was awkward in her speaking; from her body language and the way she hesitated, I could tell she was uncomfortable.

Then came the jaw-dropper for me: “Of course we know it means ‘the Word was made flesh, and dwelt amongst us.’  And that’s the uh, the great mystery of our faith – it’ll come again, it’ll come again…so we have to make sure we’re prepared to answer, in this life or otherwise, as to how we have measured up.”

Does she realize what she just quoted?  “The Word was made flesh.”  Where was Jesus before He walked on this earth?  He was in His Mother’s womb, of course!  By quoting that verse, Nancy Pelosi believes that Jesus was alive in the Blessed Virgin’s womb as an unborn baby.  I would like to ask her if she thinks it have been murder to abort Jesus.  That would surely add to her awkwardness.

In another clip, she is shown telling the bishops to push immigration reform: “I would hope there is one thing we can do working together as we go forward that speaks to what the Bible tells us about the dignity and worth of every human person.  And that is on the subject of immigration…I want you to speak about it from the pulpit…You have to tell them that this is the manifestation of living the Gospel.”  The last time I checked, Nancy Pelosi knows nothing about the real dignity and worth of every human being.  She readily tells the bishops to push immigration reform, but when she meets personally with Pope Benedict XVI and he tries to tell her the truth about the Church’s teaching on abortion, Pelosi doesn’t bat an eyelash.  It is disgusting to hear Pelosi preach to our bishops about respecting human life.  I cannot judge her soul, but I do know one thing: she is going directly against the Catholic Church’s teaching on abortion and contraception, and against the Natural Law.

Lastly, another thing that irks me is when left-wing politicians complain about the churches supposedly interfering with government.  “Separation of church and state!” is their battle cry.  Oh no, the Church can’t tell the government that abortion is murder; they might lose their tax-exempt status.  But then, when it is politically expedient, Pelosi and her posse decide to harness the Church and present their case as “living the Gospel.”  It is inconceivable to me, but somehow Nancy Pelosi is able to ignore the Church’s teaching on abortion while at the same time (falsely) advocating for the dignity and worth of each human being.  This is hypocrisy at its worst.
