Peter Shinn Statement On Abortion Facility Regulations

This statement is in response to a press release we posted from Delegate Bob Marshall of Virginia.

The press release begins with:

Virginia’s Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli issued an opinion that “the Commonwealth has the authority to promulgate regulations for facilities in which first trimester abortions are performed, as well as for providers of first trimester abortions, so long as the regulations adhere to constitutional limitations.”

First of all, I have to say to any delegate or pro-life leader, do not call them abortion clinics.  A clinic is a place of healing.  Please call them abortion mills or facilities.  Yes, I did change that word in the press release.

The release continues:

“This is a victory for women and children across Virginia,” said Delegate Bob Marshall. It is my hope that the Governor will issue health regulations as soon as possible.”

We can hardly call this a victory for women and “children”, since the unborn children still won’t make it out of the abortion mills.  Also, the women going into these murder centers will still legally kill their children and regardless of the “regulations”, they will still come out of the building crying and destroyed.

Yes, we will agree that abortion facilities can and should be regulated just to make sure that the so-called “doctors” who are murdering babies have minimum standards in place.  At the same time, a determined pursuit to do everything to regulate or fight for what might appear to be legislative “victories” can be counter-productive.

The release continues with:

Delegate Marshall added, “The National Library of Medicine has hundreds and hundreds of peer review medical articles documenting the immediate dangers of first trimester legal abortion to women and subsequent pregnancies.”

Does that article in the library of medicine show that women who went to regulated facilities had a lesser chance of of these “immediate dangers?”  The danger is not from the facility.  During abortions, the baby will die almost every single time, many women will die and many women will be injured, regardless of the regulations.  The problem isn’t the cleanliness of the facility, it is the process of women killing their children.

Finally,

1) By pursuing legislation that will not end abortion, thousands of man-hours and millions of dollars are thrown into something that will not likely save any lives.
2) By pursuing this legislation, many other people, some of whom might do more to end abortion, are comforted or given a false sense of security that something is being done to save the unborn.
3) The legislation requires policing, something that will not likely happen, allowing the status-quo to continue.

I appreciate the efforts of you folks in politics who are doing what you think can make a difference in the battle against abortion.  The question you have to answer when pursuing legislation that won’t save the unborn is, can you put “and then you can kill the baby” at the end of the sentence?  If the answer is yes, than don’t you think you should pursue efforts to actually end abortion?
