New Stanek WND.com column, “NYC’s bill targeting pregnancy centers: DOA”

Momentum was on their side when last October abortion proponents introduced legislation in the liberally toxic New York City Council to hamstring pregnancy care centers.

Bill No. 371, which mimics ordinances passed in Baltimore and Austin, would force PCCs in NYC to post signage that they do not commit abortions or distribute contraceptives. It would also force them to notify clients if there were no doctor in the house....

But then came a report two weeks ago from the NYC Department of Health....

For Bill No. 371, the timing of this report could not have been worse....

Now Bill No. 371 looks not only cruel but harmful to women....

NARAL didn't help its cause when it released its annual report last week, giving New York a grade of "A-" for abortion advocacy and ranking it the 12th-best state to "procure a hasty abortion," as Juno would say.

Nor did the pro-abortion think tank Guttmacher Institute help, also reporting last week that U.S. abortions are slightly up after declining for almost 20 years....

My prediction?...

New Stanek WND.com column, “Planned Parenthood’s unplanned pro-life advocate”

I, like everyone else who has opened Abby Johnson's new book, UnPlanned, couldn't put it down....

Abby's book contains several insights, but what I gained most from reading UnPlanned was a better understanding of the abortion worker's mind.

Abby challenged my preconceived notions from the start, literally, in her foreword...
Oh how we love to vilify our opponents.… How easy to assume that those on "our" side are right and wise and good; how those on "their" side are treacherous and foolish and deceptive. I have found right and good and wisdom on both sides. I have found foolishness and treachery and deception on both sides as well....

In all likelihood, as you look through the fence, you see faulty thinking and harmful behavior on the other side. Here's my question for you: are you ready to look through the fence and see goodness, compassion, generosity, and self-sacrifice on the other side?

To be honest, not really. But because I trusted Abby as one of us now, and also as one speaking from experience, I decided to open my mind a little....

Coincidentally, Abby's clinic was the first where the 40 Days for Life campaign was ever attempted.

It was intriguing to read the perspective of clinic workers observing that first historic 40 Days effort. Abby wrote....

New Stanek WND.com column, “MTV abortion special: Happy for the kill”

On Dec. 28, MTV aired the abortion special, "No Easy Decision," apparently yielding to pressure from abortion ideologues upset that its two highly rated shows on unplanned pregnancies, "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom," are both life-affirming....

If you haven't watched it, you can do so on MTV's website....

MTV aired "No Easy Decision" as a half-hour special sans commercials on a Tuesday night at 11:30 p.m., which says how much MTV really wanted to do this....

Abortion groups like NARAL and Feministing promoted "No Easy Decision" in advance. Afterward abortion proponents were elated....

Well, I've watched "No Easy Decision" four times now only to increasingly wonder what there was for the other side to crow about....

Aside from Dr. Drew's advocacy of contraception and abortion and the obviously prepped abortion clinic counselor on the phone, the reality of abortion decision-making and its aftermath came painfully through. Four of those unhelpful realities noted were...

This is the show that "thrilled" abortion proponents, as the pro-abort blog Jezebel exclaimed?

It seems to me the pro-abort crowd is by this time in the history of legalized abortion merely happy with crumbs, for the simple display of abortion, even with all its catastrophic negatives....

New Stanek WND.com column, “Pelosi’s sorest loser: Driehaus

If there were an award given for sorest losers, recently defeated Ohio Rep. Steve Driehaus would be a contender.

Driehaus is blaming the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List for his shellacking in November, going so far as to sue the PAC in federal court last week for "character defamation" and "depriving him of his livelihood."

Driehaus was one of 15 pro-life Democrats around the country who were either fired or retired last month after voting for Obamacare.

As one of those targeted for defeat by the SBA List, Driehaus is fixated on it rather than his Pelosi-whipped self as the reason for his political demise....

I would be remiss at this point not to again mention Kristen Day and Democrats for Life....

Day submitted 2 affidavits on Driehaus' behalf against the SBA List, relishing the ramifications in an Oct. 25 press statement that "[a]ll records… will have to be turned over to lawyers for Congressman Steve Dreihaus [sic]."

As we see, Day's hope lives on.

But this amounts to Day advocating a pro-life WikiLeaks: releasing internal pro-life "cables" to the general public, including the enemy.

While legal in this case, it was certainly treasonous to the movement.

New Stanek WND.com column, “Graphic abortion ad during the Super Bowl?”

For only three hours a year do Americans actually look forward to watching commercials rather than ignoring them, muting them or running to the bathroom during them, as we do the other 8,763 hours.

That is during the Super Bowl.

In fact, commercials have become part of the entertainment during football's annual big game, a cultural phenomenon.

So imagine a 30-second Super Bowl ad showing the graphic reality of abortion.

Most Americans, including many pro-lifers, would abhor such an ad.

But pro-life activists like me would be ecstatic, if such a word can be used to describe fulfillment of a passion to see a multitude of people face the truth about abortion. Activists believe that only by understanding the reality of abortion will the culture be wholeheartedly persuaded against it.

And the publicity, oh, the publicity. Recall the controversy surrounding Focus on the Family's pro-life pablum Super Bowl ad featuring Tim Tebow earlier this year. This would be that on gigamegalo-steroids.

And there is a chance such a commercial will air during the 2012 Super Bowl....

New Stanek WND.com column, “Thankful for… a late-term abortionist”

Well, I never thought I'd be saying thanks to Nebraska abortionist LeRoy Carhart for attempting to expand his late-term abortion cartel, but that's exactly what I'm here to do.

Iowa's incoming pro-life Republican speaker of the House, Kraig Paulsen, noted on Iowa Public Television Nov. 20 that while abortion was not much of a topic on the campaign trail, Carhart's Nov. 9 announcement that he was planning to open up shop in Council Bluffs "really elevated the whole discussion."

Or, as the Des Moines Register put it, Carhart "pushed the issue, Paulsen said."

Paulsen noted that consequently there were "several" legislative options under discussion....

I expect abortion advocates are irritated with Carhart for triggering this call for more abortion restrictions. Currently NARAL gives Iowa a C+ on abortion, which is high by its standards. Pro-lifers would love for NARAL to bestow Iowa a flaming red F in the none too distant future....

There is also the issue of abortion-industry turf, which doesn't get much publicity. But Planned Parenthood of the Heartland must certainly be livid with Carhart for impinging on its territory....

New Stanek WND.com column, “Democrats for Life betrays pro-life movement”

Friends sometimes find themselves on opposite sides during political campaigns, when emotions can ride high.

Fortunately, just as opponents usually shake hands afterward, so do those friends.

But the rift that developed during the 2010 election cycle between Democrats for Life and basically the rest of the pro-life movement is irreparable, at least as long as Kristen Day remains its executive director.

Day became incensed when pro-life groups fulfilled their promise to target House pro-life Democrats for electoral defeat who voted for Obamacare sans the Stupak Amendment....

Day began publicly bashing other pro-life groups, convinced their motive was not as stated but rather to function as covert operatives for the Republican Party. From Politics Daily, Nov. 3:

"They [pro-life groups] put all their eggs in one party," said Kristen Day, executive director for Democrats for Life.… "They don't want two pro-life parties because most of them want a Republican majority."...

I suppose all the aforementioned would be forgivable after political passions died down, but then Day went too far.....

New Stanek WND.com column, “The abortion nurse’s daughter: Inside minds at the mill”

Last week I described Abigail Seidman's upbringing as the daughter of an abortion clinic nurse.

This week I'll discuss what Abigail saw inside the mill where her mother worked. I have always been intrigued with the psyche of abortion workers and asked Abigail extensively about this....

I asked Abigail if the clinic aborted women who weren't pregnant. Yes, she said, adding the clinic owner often joked "anyone who wants an abortion can have one, whether she's pregnant or not!"

I asked Abigail if due dates were ever adjusted....

"I don't remember a woman ever being turned away because she was too advanced in her pregnancy," Abigail wrote me. "The latest date I ever heard was 28 weeks, although women were always told their date was 16 weeks or less."

What did staff think of aborting mothers? "They called them 'stupid sluts' if it wasn't their first abortion, or 'brood mares' if they chose life and left before aborting," wrote Abigail.

There was one particular scandal Abigail recalled of a clinic worker who accidentally got pregnant but decided against abortion....

She would daily taunt pro-lifers by flashing her pregnant belly at sidewalk counselors, crowing, "Today's the day! I'm having an abortion!"

She didn't, of course, but continued to facilitate abortions after her daughter was born, bringing her to work so she could breast-feed. "I was charged with babysitting, upstairs in the clinic library," Abigail wrote....

New Stanek WND.com column, “The abortion nurse’s daughter”

When Abigail Seidman was 10 years old her mother had an abortion. Abigail suspects her father was not the baby's father, and her parents eventually divorced.

Abigail describes her childhood until that time as normal. But the abortion "radicalized" her mother, Abigail told me, who came to decide abortion had not only been the right decision for her but was also good in a moral sense....

Abigail's mother was and is a nurse. She became more involved in feminism and the abortion culture. She decided to switch careers and began working at her local abortion mill in Toledo, Ohio, as well as her local Planned Parenthood, which did not commit abortions.

On Abigail's 11th birthday, her mother put her on the birth-control pill, admonishing her not to have sex but to nevertheless take precautions, since she could be raped....

As Abigail's mother became more deeply involved with feminism, she told Abigail all people were naturally bisexual and androgynous and that gender and sexuality were merely social constructs. She cut Abigail's waist-length hair short, which she was not allowed to grow out again until she was an adult. She encouraged Abigail at age 12 to identify openly as a bisexual and forced her to wear GLBT pins on her backpack....

The clinic owner where Abigail's mother worked was a Wiccan. Most of her new friends followed a Wicca-oriented New Age path and worshipped fertility, warrior and death goddesses. Abigail's mother dabbled in all the aforementioned but settled on Buddhism. She banned Bibles and discussion of Christianity from the house....

When Abigail turned 13 her mother began pulling her from school on Fridays to work as a "deathscort" at her abortion mill....

New Stanek WND.com column, “Sex and consequences: Link between pro-gay and pro-abortion agendas”

Homosexual and AIDS activists heckled President Obama during a Democrat fundraiser in New York on Sept. 22, complaining about the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy and inadequate AIDS funding.

Obama responded that his administration had increased AIDS funding and offensively added, "The people [who] will potentially take over if we don't focus on the election, I promise you, will cut AIDS funding," as if that really would happen, as if Republicans really want those afflicted with AIDS to die. Obama's comment was no different than one made by boorish Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson, who accused Republicans opposing Obamacare of wanting sick people to "die quickly."

Here's video of the heckling and remark...

In fact, worldwide AIDS funding increased dramatically under President Bush.... And Obama flatlined that funding.

But I digress. The point is that we know the most prevalent cause of AIDS in the U.S. is men having sex with men. The Centers for Disease Control has just released tragic new statistics...

The fact is, men having sex with men is bad for their health. The prevalence of AIDS is just one indicator.

Likewise, promiscuous heterosexual sex is bad for one's health, leading to a prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases - some incurable, like herpes; some incurable and deadly, like AIDS – unwanted pregnancies and infertility, to name just three physical consequences.

But where are the health warnings?...

New Stanek WND.com column, “Republican pro-life paradigm shift”

Yes, the Republican Party is the pro-life party. But the abortion issue often seems like its red-headed stepchild.

For example, the 1994 House GOP Contract with America, which provided a Republican roadmap out of that decade's liberal abyss, completely omitted any mention of abortion....

This week I'm happy to report the 2010 House GOP Contract with America is now anticipated to address the abortion issue....

I also wrote last week the pro-life political projectile right now is the tea party. Some disagree, complaining tea partiers don't necessarily want to spotlight our issue either, because it's "too divisive."

But pay attention to the sterling pro-life candidates the tea party is giving us. As John Avlon wrote at The Daily Beast Sept. 20:
But the soothing big-tent implications offered by those who say the GOP should de-emphasize social issues only seem to go one way. There is no concurrent sense of tolerance for candidates with liberal or libertarian social positions. Where are the tea party candidates who are pro-choice?

MSNBC liberal host Rachel Maddow incredulously pointed out last week that five GOP tea party-backed U.S. Senate candidates are pro-life with no exceptions: Sharron Angle of Nevada, Ken Buck of Colorado, Joe Miller of Alaska, Christine O'Donnell of Delaware and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

This is huge.... Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards understands, hence her frantic email alert Monday calling this development, "not just crazy – truly frightening."...

And, of course, there is the superfluity of pro-life female candidates, causing many to proclaim this "The Year of the Pro-Life Woman."...

New Stanek WND.com column, “GOP establishment vs. tea party on abortion”

Two conservative GOP leaders with presidential aspirations, Mitch Daniels and Haley Barbour, both recently stated they think the GOP should ignore social issues in lieu of fiscal issues.

Some think such chatter is a concerted effort emanating from establishment Republicans anxious to win over/hold on to independents heading into the 2010 and 2012 elections.

Indeed, the Los Angeles Times reported yesterday that the much-touted GOP book released that same day, "Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders," is "a manifesto of fiscal conservatism" that "avoids the hot-button social issues, including abortion and gay rights, which have been featured in previous GOP campaigns."

In addition, the Republican National Coalition for Life reports that the Republican's upcoming 2010 version of the "Contract with America" currently excludes any mention of Life issues whatsoever. RNC4L writes that pro-life stalwart Rep. Steve King is battling for the GOP to include at a a minimum a pledge to defund Planned Parenthood, the United States' largest abortion provider.

I get really, really tired of the constant, senseless battle with Republicans to uphold the sanctity of human life....

New Stanek WND column, “Collusion in the Heartland”

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has taken Nike's "Just do it" challenge to tackle life with gusto and run the other way with it.

Without checking with any ruling body in the state of IA whether their plan was legal, PP abortionists 2 years ago began dispensing RU-486 abortion pills by computer screen to mothers scattered throughout Iowa, some hundreds of miles away....

It is a felony in IA for anyone other than licensed physicians to commit abortion. Since physical contact is never made with telemed abortions, or even possible in most cases, PP's scheme was questionably legal at best, criminal at worst....

Operation Rescue, through the IA Open Records Act, has received 900 pages of e-mails sent between officials and staff members at the Attorney General's office, IA Board of Medicine and PP of the Heartland. They smell of collusion.

Example: Citizen's Information Center is a Boston, MS, citizen's watchdog group that investigates the medical industry through public-records requests.

In July, CIC formally requested from IBOM copies of the licenses of PP of the Heartland's abortionists as well as any record of complaints and disciplinary actions against them. These are supposed to be available to the public.

But the Board gave PP a heads up and ample time to file an injunction to stop the release of records to CIC.

Here's an e-mail from PP attorney Mike Falstrom to Kent Nebel, IBOM's director of legal affairs (click to enlarge):

New Stanek WND.com column, “The IUD as emergency contraceptive?”

The aversion of a large contingent of the pro-life movement on a critical point has allowed pro-aborts to slither us down a colossal slippery slope.

That contingent has refused to engage on the fact that hormonal contraceptives and the intrauterine device may cause abortions by obstructing days-old embryos from implanting in the uterus.

Now we learn of the next slither down the slope. Reuters reported this week:
A copper intrauterine device was 100% effective at emergency contraception in a study of almost 2000 Chinese women who had the device implanted up to five days after unprotected sex....

"It is by far the best emergency contraceptive option," [said] Dr. James Trussell... "But many people just don't know about it."

I was one. Further news to me, again from Reuters:
On its women's health site, the Department of Health and Human Services lists intrauterine devices as a valid form of emergency contraception.

Really? Yes.

What should alarm pro-lifers is the likelihood that IUDs inserted post-coitally are most likely to cause abortions....

New Stanek WND.com column, “Obama toadies vs. abortion freeloaders”

WND%20logo.gif

Obama sycophant SodaHead's July 15 blog post headline blared, "Latest Right-Wing Lie Blows Up In Their Faces: NO FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ELECTIVE ABORTION."

SodaHead was attempting to beat back conservatives who were in an uproar over National Right to Life's finding that federal funding for PA's health insurance high-risk pool includes abortion coverage....

Likewise, another of Obama's online guardians, Media Matters, quickly hurled a 1,700-word tome into the blogosphere with such cocky subtitles as (emphasis mine), "[Glenn] Beck repeats discredited claim that Obama admin has OK'd federal funding for elective abortions"....

The only problem is the abortion industry agrees with (all) pro-lifers (other than Democrats) that Obama's executive order didn't apply to high-risk pools and were furious when in the wake of NRLC's discovery a busted White House quickly directed DHHS to write rules ensuring that federal funds indeed would not go toward abortion in state high-risk pools....

So while Obama rags were proclaiming his innocence, pro-aborts who had smartly remained silent during the EO sham could no longer contain themselves and began writing just the opposite.

Jessica Arons at the pro-abort blog RH Reality Check snapped, "But here's the catch, nothing in federal law actually restricts the use of federal or state money for abortion in [high-risk pools]."

Rebecca Sive at the same site was even more frank, stating, "In fact, and as we all know, the executive order was nothing but a most willingly made sop to Rep. Stupak.... [T]he Executive Order's creation and signing was a deeply hypocritical and cynical act...."

Now Obama not only has to deal with the pro-life Democratic faction but also the media faction that wants to perpetuate the lie for him vs. the pro-abort faction demanding he give up the sham....

But I do note that increasingly we're seeing pro-aborts hoist on their own petard - and they're supposed to have the political advantage.

New Stanek WND.com column, “Jimmy Kimmel crew tries to fry pro-lifer”

WND%20logo.gif

Abortion isn't very funny, as comedian Jimmy Kimmel is learning the hard way.

On June 25 the youth pro-life activist group Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust was holding a Face the Truth event in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, as was their First Amendment right.

"Face the Truth" is pro-life speak for showing the public the reality of abortion via large graphic photos of aborted babies.

While the pro-life protest was under way, a film crew showed up to tape a stunt across the street for Jimmy Kimmel Live, seen weeknights on ABC.

But members of the crew quickly became aggravated by the gory aborted baby-photos and turned two of the hot spotlights on Survivor Ryan Bueler.

In this video, one of many captured by the Survivors, a cameramen states several times he has turned the spotlight on Bueler and his sign because "I don't want to see that," and "The fact is, I don't want to see it."...

New Stanek WND.com column, “Exposed! Kagan’s partial-birth abortion scheme”

WND%20logo.gif

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology is well-known in pro-life circles to be radically pro-abortion.

For instance, ACOG supports the most heinous of all abortion practices, partial-birth abortion. When in 2007 the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the partial-birth abortion ban of 2003, ACOG released an indignant statement, which read, in part:

"Today's decision... is shameful and incomprehensible to those of us who have dedicated our lives to caring for women," said Douglas W. Laube, MD, MEd, ACOG president. "It leaves no doubt that women's health in America is perceived as being of little consequence.

"... The Supreme Court's action today, though stunning, in many ways isn't surprising given the current culture in which scientific knowledge frequently takes a back seat to subjective opinion," he added.

How admirable of ACOG to stand on the principle of "scientific knowledge" in the face of "subjective opinion," which overwhelmingly thought sucking out the brains and collapsing the skulls of almost-delivered late-term babies was gross.

But as it turns out, ACOG is the grandest of frauds.

It has just come to light through the process of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan's confirmation hearing that in 1996 ACOG let the Clinton White House, via then-associate counsel Elena Kagan, write its medical opinion of the partial-birth abortion procedure....

New Stanek WND.com column, “Taxpayer cash funds Skype-type abortions”

WND%20logo.gif

In March, pro-life activist group Operation Rescue secretly taped a phone conversation between a Planned Parenthood of the Heartland receptionist in Iowa and a member of its team in Wichita posing as a prospective abortion client.

It was then that we first learned of telemed RU-486 abortions.

"Telemed" is short for "telemedicine," which Wikipedia describes as "a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine where medical information is transferred through interactive audiovisual media for the purpose of consulting, and sometimes remote medical procedures or examinations."

Think of clinical practice via Skype....

And while PP claims telemed abortions are confined at present to Iowa, expansion has been in the works for some time....

I dig a little digging and found that PP of the Great Northwest, which operates in Alaska, Idaho and western Washington, has been trialing telemedicine in Alaska since 2009, with "plans to expand."...

Federal funding appears to be part of the plan. Pro-Life Wisconsin found this revealing July 10, 2009, article in the Business Journal of Milwaukee....

New Stanek WND.com column, “Planned Parenthood forces us into RU-486 complicity”

WND%20logo.gif

... Robin Marty at RH Reality Check promoted telemed abortions as a welcome alternative to "forc[ing] [women] to travel hours or set aside days in order to obtain the drug."

The ACLU promotes RU-486 abortions because they provide "abortion options for women who live far from a surgical abortion provider.... In 86% of counties in the country, there is no abortion provider... [sometimes] leaving women to travel hundreds of miles for care."

On the flip side this means women taking RU-486 for abortions are "far from" the abortion provider's help, sometimes "hours," sometimes "hundreds of miles."

Which means local clinics and hospitals have been and will be forced to mop up Planned Parenthood's RU-486 complications. In fact, PP recommends this on its website:

Rarely, women need vacuum aspiration or hospitalization. Take your medication guide with you if you need to visit an emergency room, a hospital, or a health-care provider.

"Vacuum aspiration" is code for surgical abortion.

PP admits 3 to 4 of every 100 RU-486 abortions fail:

Complete abortion will occur in 96-97% of women who choose mifepristone [RU-486]. In the small percentage of cases that medication abortion fails, other abortion procedures are required to end the pregnancies.

This means in rural areas where PP commits telemed RU-486 abortions, its sole emergency fallback plan is forcing local Catholic or Christian hospitals and/or medical staff to complete its abortions.

PP's solution to its shortage of abortionists and surgical suites is us.

New Stanek WND.com column, “Blagojevich’s crimes against the sanctity of life”

WND%20logo.gif

Opening arguments were heard yesterday in the federal corruption trial of former IL Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Blagojevich stands accused of attempting to sell President Barack Obama's vacated US Senate seat.

Blagojevich and wife Patti have recently portrayed themselves as sympathetic figures on reality television, he on Celebrity Apprentice and she on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Both attempts have worked to a degree. About Patti's on-air stint in a Costan Rican jungle Huffington Post noted:

It was image changing, too, for Blagojevich, who came off as a down-to-earth, well-liked mom. Before the show, Blagojevich was mostly known for being a foul-mouthed political spouse caught on federal wiretaps prosecutors had made of her husband.

Rod even managed to win over Donald Trump. When Trump fired Rod in episode 4 because he didn't know how to use modern communication methods (texting, e-mail) to communicate with his team, the Chicago Sun-Times reported:

Donald Trump was hesitant to fire Blagojevich, saying he thought the impeached ex-governor was afraid to offend potential jurors while competing.

"I think Rod is being overly nice because he has some pretty big things to do when we're finished with this," Trump said. "I think he's in a very tough position. I think you're a guy with great courage."

Oh, please. As governor of IL, Rod Blagojevich was anything but courageous, taking inordinate pleasure in picking on people way smaller than himself. On the life issue in particular, Blagojevich was a bully for death.

In 2005...
